Police fire tear gas and water on protesting students

The Police fired tear gas and water cannons on protesting university students near Parliament today.

The protest was staged by the Inter-University Student’s Union.

The students were blocked by the Police near the Parliament roundabout as the students attempted to proceed towards Parliament.

The Police then fired tear gas and water cannons on the students.

The Convener of the IUSF Maheel Bandara was later arrested by the Police for behaving in an unruly manner during the protest. (Colombo Gazette)
