The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said that talks held with opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa today on abolishing the Executive Presidency, was successful.
JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that Rajapaksa had noted that the policy of his party was to abolish the Executive Presidency.
However he said there were some concerns raised by Rajapaksa on backing the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
Dissanayake said that Rajapaksa was prepared to meet again to discuss the matters further.
Meanwhile Rajapaksa told reporters that he will discuss matters that arose at the talks today with the joint opposition and decide on the next step. (Colombo Gazette)
