Karannagoda files FR against moves to arrest him

Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda today filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition in the Supreme Court against moves to arrest him.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had said that Karannagoda is to be arrested over the case involving the abduction and disappearance of 11 youth between 2008-2009.

Karannagoda, in his petition, has said that there is no evidence to back the allegations raised against him by the CID.

The CID had visited his residence in Kirulapone on 21 and 22 February, but Karannagoda was missing at the time, giving rise to speculation that he may be on the run. (Colombo Gazette)

Madush leads STF to hidden firearm in Negombo

Notorious underworld leader Makandure Madush has helped the Police Special Task Force (STF) recover a hidden firearm in Negombo. The Police said that a T-56 firearm was discovered in Dalupotha Ela in Negombo. Madush had pointed out the location where the weapon was hidden, the Police said.
