UNP not led by its leader says President

President Maithripala Sirisena says the United National Party (UNP) is not being led by the party leader.

Speaking at an event today, the President said that this year is an election year and a new Government is expected to be appointed.

He said this while speaking at the 22nd Annual Conference of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna held in Colombo today.

The President’s media unit quoted the President as saying that the country needs a people friendly government.

He said the country must be freed from the huge debts.

Venerable Elle Gunawansa Thero, opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksha and leader of Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, Dinesh Gunawardhana also attended the event. (Colombo Gazette)
