Basil notes that next President will be from SLPP

Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa says the next President will be from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

He said that before the year 2019 ends he expects a President to be elected from the SLPP-led new alliance.

Rajapaksa said this while speaking at an event today, the SLPP media unit said.

He said that the SLPP has performed better than the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna in some districts at the last elections and will do better at future elections.

Basil Rajapaksa also said that the main fight of his party right now is not against Ranil Wickremesinghe, Sajith Premadasa or Navin Dissanayake but against international?conspirators. (Colombo Gazette)

SLFP will not contest Local Government polls with the UNP

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) says it will not contest the Local Government (LG) elections with the United National Party (UNP). SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said that the SLFP will contest the elections scheduled to be held in January, independently. The SLFP and the UNP are part of the current unity Government.

Director of Indian movie with LTTE references challenges decision

After the trailer of his upcoming movie?Neelam?was denied certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Indian movie Director Venkatesh Kumar has approached the Indian Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), The Hindu newspaper reported. ?The trailer was refused certification since there are references to Tamil Eelam and the LTTE, which I was told violate guidelines. I have presented a defence to the appellate tribunal contesting the refusal of certification,? he said.
