SLFP opposes abolishing Executive Presidency

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will oppose abolishing the?Executive Presidency.

SLFP Parliamentarian Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament today that the Executive Presidency is a key requirement for the country today.

He said the SLFP will support a President having powers given to him after being given a mandate by the people.

Nimal Siripala de Silva expressed these view when the Constitutional Assembly met today to discuss the experts report on the proposed Constitution.

Nimal Siripala de Silva said the SLFP has proposed that the Cabinet Ministers be limited to 30 and the number of?State/Deputy Ministers to 30.

He also said that the allocation of subjects and functions should be done on a scientific basis and?included in the Constitution.?(Colombo Gazette)

Mother and three children found dead after taking poison

A mother and her three children were found dead in Jaffna after they had reportedly consumed poison. The mother had reportedly given the children food mixed with poison. The children were two young boys and a girl. The Jaffna media reported that the mother gave the children poison and later committed suicide over a financial issue.
