Tense situation as group protests near media institutions

A tense situation arose when a group staged protests near some media institutions today.

The group of protesters wearing black bands around their mouths protested opposite Sirasa TV (MTV) at Braybrooke Place in Colombo and opposite the Ceylon Today newspaper office.

They held banners saying they were protesting against “unethical media” in Sri Lanka.

The protesters, which included actress Chandani Seneviratne, attempted to hand over a petition to the Sirasa TV management, which was not accepted at the time.

The protesters had then shouted slogans and left.

They then gathered near the Ceylon Today newspaper office and staged a protest but were met with a counter protest by some Ceylon Today staff.

A tense situation arose when some protesters got into a verbal confrontation with some of the newspaper staff.

The protesters later left. (Colombo Gazette)
