Government accused of cover-up in Lasantha, Thajudeen case

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today accused the Government of a cover-up in the investigation into the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickremetunga and rugger player Wasim Thajudeen.

TNA Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran told Parliament the Government has failed to arrest those involved in the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickremetunga as well as rugger player Wasim Thajudeen.

He said the Government, which took office in 2015, has made several statements but there was little or no action.

“Why has there been no progress?” Sumanthiran asked.

Sumanthiran also said that the Government does not seem to know the name of a single Tamil journalist killed in the North.

He also said that while investigations had commenced over the murder of Lasantha Wickremetunga and disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, there were no investigations over the murder of Tamil journalists. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Sumanthiran is 100 percent correct. All these murders of journalist in north, east and south took place during Rajapakse time. The government is protecting the killers some of them have dual citizenship . What action will the new government take? Is Sirisena i protecting his pal Rajapakse and his brothers? Ten years is not required to resolve a murder case and find the killer

    • What about those Tamil people killed by that dog V. Prabhakaran? Tamil leaders, politicians, educationists, professionals, journalists, leaders of rival groups, innocent civilians? You don’t need any investigations on the killings of these Tamil people by Sumanthiram’s former boss.
