The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is in talks with 28 political parties to form a broad alliance, Parliamentarian Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said today.
Speaking at a media briefing today, he said that the new alliance will look to defeat Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the next elections.
Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena also noted the significance of a group of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members in the Moratuwa Municipal Council (MC) joining hands with the SLPP.
The Moratuwa Municipal Council is controlled by the SLPP.
Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena called on members of all political parties in local councils controlled by the SLPP to join hands with the SLPP. (Colombo Gazette)
