New Navy Commander meets President and PM

Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, who assumed duties as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy called on President Maithripala Sirisena at the President?s Official Residence, today.

Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva met the President to formally inform him that he assumed duties as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, the President’s media division said.

The Commander also presented a memento to the President on this occasion.

Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva also called on Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe separately. (Colombo Gazette)

Rescued 120 Sri Lankans arrested

One hundred twenty Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka who were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard from a stranded vessel in the sea yesterday, have been and arrested. An NDTV report said that the refugees, mostly from camps in Tamil Nadu, were illegally heading to Australia, but their vessel developed a snag in the Bay of Bengal near Nagapattinam. UAE to deport 19 Tamil refugees

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is to deport 19 Tamil refugees to Sri Lanka,?Human Rights Watch said today.
