Namal Kumara being investigated for forgery

Director of the Anti-Corruption Force Namal Kumara is being investigated for?forgery.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has told court that?Namal Kumara had allegedly submitted forged?certificates to join the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force.

He had then?deserted the Army in 2010. Meanwhile, the CID also briefed court on the data recovered from Namal Kumara’s mobile phone with the assistance of experts in Hong Kong.

Namal Kumara had earlier exposed details of an alleged plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and other VVIPs.

Former DIG Nalaka de Silva was later arrested over the alleged plot. (Colombo Gazette)

Gintota situation under control after overnight curfew

The situation in?Gintota in Galle was under control following an overnight curfew, the Police said. The Government meanwhile called for calm and urged the public not to fall prey to attempts to create communal tensions in the area. Over 100 Police Special Task Force commandos and over 200 policemen were deployed to?Gintota last evening following mob violence in the area. The violence involved two groups and the situation escalated with houses and at least one place of worship being attacked.

Glyphosate found hidden in container with potatoes

A consignment of glyphosate was found hidden in a container with potatoes by customs officers today. Customs officers found 656 kg of?glyphosate when the container from India was inspected. The consignment was detained at the Orugodawatte container yard. Investigations revealed that the?glyphosate was imported by a businessman in?Ja-Ela.
