SLPP says will continue to push for early elections

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) today said that it will continue to push for early Parliamentary elections next year.

SLPP Parliamentarian Shehan Semasinghe said that public rallies and meetings will be held in all the districts next year to gather support for early Parliamentary elections.

Semasinghe told reporters that the joint opposition, including the SLPP, will look to make Mahinda Rajapaksa Prime Minister again.

“The Government must bring a motion to Parliament next month and call for early elections,” Semasinghe said.

The MP warned that 2019 is also expected to be a crisis year for the country as there is instability in the Government.

He said that several MPs are fighting for posts in the Government and this is expected to create political instability in the country next year.

Semasinghe also insisted that the United National Party (UNP) had reached a written agreement with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) for the TNA to support the UNP in Parliament despite the TNA saying no.

He called on the Government to make the agreement public without keeping it under cover. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Mr. Semasinghe, you guys have been pushing for the last three and a half years, but failed because you guys and your leader didn’t know as to When,How and Where to push. Look back and see, whatever you have done so far was a failure. Accepting purported premiership was the good example. On the other hand, when you have enough of issues in your own party you try to point out other party issues. It’s time for you to turn the flash light towards you. Moreover, you often come out with childish statements, address the intelligent people of the country. Don’t ever think that the role of the opposition is to criticize and find fault with whatever ruling party does. We have never heard or seen you appreciating anything done by the government. This means whatever government has done all wrong and only you guys can do the right things for the country. If you think that way, give an answer to this question, “If you knew what was best for the country, then why you and your leader lost the last elections?”
