The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Leader R. Sampanthan says he is still the Opposition Leader.
He told Parliament today that he has not been removed from the post by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was named as the new Opposition Leader yesterday.
However, Sampanthan said that Rajapaksa does not hold a seat in Parliament as he had joined the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
Rajapaksa entered Parliament as a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
TNA Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran said that Rajapaksa was no more a member of the UPFA as he had accepted SLPP membership.
He told Parliament that it has been proposed that a select committee be appointed to look into the issue over Rajapaksa’s seat in Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)
