CID recovers deleted data from Namal Kumara’s phone

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has recovered deleted conversations from the mobile phone of activist Namal Kumara.

A special team from the CID had visited Hong Kong as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena.

The CID team was in Hong Kong to recover the voice recordings related to the case, deleted from the mobile telephone of Namal Kumara.

Two officers from the CID and an official from the Government Analyst’s Department were in Hong Kong to obtain expert assistance to recover the data.

Namal Kumara had revealed details of the plot to kill the President following a telephone conversation he had with former Terrorist Investigations Department (DIG) Nalaka de Silva.

The CID informed court today about the deleted conversations and submitted a report. (Colombo Gazette)
