Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to resign from his disputed post of ‘Prime Minister’ tomorrow.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa tweeted saying in order to ensure stability of the nation former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to resign from the Prime Minister post tomorrow after an address to the nation.
Namal Rajapaksa further said that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and others will now look to form a broader political alliance.
Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that Mahinda Rajapaksa had decided to step down in the best interest of the country.
Abeywardena said that Rajapaksa can hold office without resigning but that will only further drag the political crisis in the country.
However, he said Rajapaksa decided to step down after the court ruling given today and yesterday and his cabinet will also stand dissolved. (Colombo Gazette)
