Airport staff detain man with foreign currency

A Sri Lankan male, aged 47, was detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport today with foreign currency valued at?valued at Rs. 2,408,235.00. The customs department said that the resident of Weligama was detained?by the airport security staff?and handed over to the customs department. He had in his possession US$ 15,000.00 and Saudi Riyal 10,000.00 valued at Rs. 2,408,235.00 and was attempting to take it to Singapore.

TNA demands the opposition leader post

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is demanding the opposition leader post in the new Parliament which is set to convene next month. TNA member Selvam Adaikalanathan said that the TNA has now become the third force in Parliament and so it should be given the opposition leader post. Accordingly, he says TNA leader R. Sampanthan must be appointed as the opposition leader in the new Parliament. The TNA will have 16 seats in the new parliament which will meet from September 1.?(Colombo Gazette)

Several Chinese projects still under review
