TNA tells President to appoint a UNF nominated PM

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has written to President Maithripala Sirisena urging him to appoint a nominee of the United National Front (UNF) as Prime Minister and end the political crisis.

The letter signed by the TNA MPs notes that Mahinda Rajapaksa does not command the confidence of Parliament to remain as Prime Minister.

The TNA noted that no-confidence votes taken in Parliament since October 26th proves that the new Prime Minister does not have the majority support of Parliament.

As a result, the TNA says it will support the restoration of a Government headed by the UNF as it existed prior to October 26th.

The TNA said it will also support the appointment of a nominee of the UNF who the President feels can command the confidence of Parliament to be Prime Minister. (Colombo Gazette)
