Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today had talks with fishermen associations from the North and other parts of the country.
He discussed the issues faced by the fishermen and looked at the immediate steps that can be taken to address some of those issues.
Among the issues discussed was the high production cost for fishermen and high tax on the industry.
The discussion also focused on an insurance scheme for the fishermen.
Former Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and current Fisheries Minister Vijith Wijayamuni Zoysa also attended the meeting. (Colombo Gazette)
