UNP calls for early Presidential elections

The United National Party (UNP) today called for early Presidential elections.

Speaking at a major rally in Colombo this evening, UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he is prepared to go for a fresh no-confidence vote in Parliament.

Wickremesinghe said that he was confident Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will lose the confidence vote for a second time in Parliament.

He said that the UNP is also prepared to face a Parliamentary election and a Presidential election.

Wickremesinghe said that an early Presidential election must be held and he proposed that both a Parliamentary election and Presidential election be held together.

Meanwhile, UNP spokesman Harin Fernando said that President Sirisena must get ready to step down and go for an early Presidential election.
