United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa today admitted that he was offered the post of Prime Minister by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Speaking to reporters at Temple Trees, Premadasa said that he had declined the offer from the President on principle.
Speaking at a public rally this week, President Maithripala Sirisena revealed that he had offered the post of Prime Minister to Sajith Premadasa and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
The President said that both Premadasa and Jayasuriya had turned down the offer as they were scared of Ranil Wickremesinghe.
However Premadasa insisted that he was not scared but he felt on principle he could not accept it.
He said that his main focus at the time was to ensure both the President and Prime Minister work together to address National issues. (Colombo Gazette)
