President Maithripala Sirisena today accused former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of attempting to create a rift between him and India.
Speaking at a United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) rally in Battaramulla this evening, Sirisena said that some of his Wickremesinghe’s Ministers had leaked misleading information to the media over comments made on India at a cabinet meeting before the new Government was formed.
That resulted in some media publishing reports quoting the President as saying India’s RAW was behind a plot to assassinate him.
Sirisena had later denied the reports and spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the telephone and assured him that the reports were false.
The President said that the new Government with Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister. will work very closely with India and maintain a good relationship. (Colombo Gazette)
