Former Minister Arjuna Ranatunga was arrested today over the shooting incident at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) office in Dematagoda.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) arrested Ranatunga after he was accused of being involved in the shooting incident in which one person was killed.
He was granted bail after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate.
Petroleum trade unions launched a strike over the death of the CPC employee.
The unions demanded the arrest of Ranatunga over the death of the employee.
The shooting incident took place when former Minister Arjuna Ranatunga arrived at the location.
A tense situation arose with some people attempting to assault Ranatunga.
Ranatunga’s security guard opened fire injuring at least two people.
One person succumbed to his injuries in hospital later.
