Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) trade unions have taken over editorial control of Lake House, the state owned newspaper group.
Sunday Observer Editor Dharisha Bastians tweeted saying she had to cede editorial control of Sunday Observer to the unions.
“Today I had to leave Lake House unable to carry out my editorial duties. I was asked to cede editorial control of
@observerlk by #SLPP unions inside the premises, supported by an MP who called my staff,” she tweeted yesterday.
She said that she was not willing to be coerced into towing an editorial line, and was therefore unable to take responsibility for today’ edition.
Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa tweeted saying once the new Media Minister takes oaths he will take steps to find out and investigate the matter.
“We at the SLPP is unaware of this incident,” he said. (Colombo Gazette)
