The Government today admitted it used the names of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge, rugger player Wasim Thajudeen and cartoonist Prageeth Eknaligoda to secure votes at the last Presidential elections.
Cabinet co-spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne told reporters today that the current Government campaigned for the 2015 elections promising justice for the murders of Wickrematunge and Thajudeen and the disappearance of Eknaligoda.
Senaratne however said the Government has so far failed to fulfill its promise.
The Minister said that the murderers of Lasantha Wickrematunge must be hanged.
Lasantha Wickrematunge was killed in 2009 when he was on his way to office.
Wasim Thajudeen was found dead in 2012 following a car crash but it was later revealed that he was murdered.
Prageeth Eknaligoda was reported missing in January 2010. The former Government was accused of being involved in all three incidents. (Colombo Gazette)
