Sri Lanka’s honorary Consul General in Kerala passed away

Jomon Joseph Edathala, Honorary Consul General of Sri Lanka in Kerala, died in Kochi. He was 43. Jomon had been admitted to a private hospital following a cerebral haemorrhage he suffered two weeks ago. He passed away at around 6 am on Friday, the Times of India reported.

He is the first honorary consul of Sri Lanka in Kerala and had been in office since 2013. A businessman who has interests in hospitality and construction materials supply, Jomon’s friendship with the then Union MoS Shashi Tharoor turned out to be instrumental in Sri Lanka setting up his new consulate in Thiruvananthapuram which Tharoor represents in Parliament.

He is a post graduate in Conflict management from the UN institute of education and research and is an author of three books.

His last work was a travelogue through conflict-ridden Afghanistan. Jomon is a native of Edathala near Perumbavoor in Kochi.

He leaves behind wife Manju, son Joseph and daughter Riya. (Colombo Gazette)
