Twelve people have been killed and over 69,000 affected by inclement weather which affected the country since the beginning of this month.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said that heavy rainfall together with high winds caused flash floods mainly in twelve districts, including the Southern, Western, North-Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.
Search and rescue teams were mobilized to assist the affected families and 670 military and police officials were deployed to assist in the search and rescue operations.
According to the DMC, 69,583 people (17,303 families) have been affected as at 1200 hours on 10th October 2018 and 12 deaths were reported in five Districts. (Colombo Gazette)
