Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says he is ready to lead the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
Rajapaksa is to be officially invited to take over the leadership of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
SLPP Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris told reporters on Monday that the SLPP will look to appoint Rajapaksa as the party leader before the end of this year.
He said that since the SLPP will be celebrating two years in November it will be ideal that Rajapaksa be appointed the party leader.
Peiris also noted that if an issue were to arise over his Parliament seat then the legal side of it will be looked into.
Rajapaksa is a member of Parliament elected under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) ticket and is a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
Peiris also noted that the SLPP has performed exceptionally well at recent elections. (Colombo Gazette)
