Sri Lanka today said it was saddened by the devastating tsunami in Indonesia.
President Maithripala Sirisena tweeted saying Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the people of Indonesia in this hour of grief.
“Saddened to hear about the devastating tsunami in Indonesia. My deepest condolences to the families of those affected. Sri Lanka stands in solidarity with the people of Indonesia in this hour of grief,” he tweeted.
The death toll from the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia rose to over 830 today.
Indonesian Disaster Management Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho estimates that 2.4 million people were impacted by Friday’s earthquake.
Nugroho said 71 foreigners were in the city of Palu at the time of the quake and most were safely evacuated to Jakarta, CNN reported.
At least five foreigners, including three French nationals as well as a Malaysian and a South Korean national, are unaccounted for, he said. (Colombo Gazette)
