The United National Party (UNP) claims the leaders of the Joint Opposition (JO) have booked rooms at five star hotels in Colombo to stay overnight while their supporters stay on the streets following today’s protest.

Deputy Minister and UNP Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara told reporters that JO VIPs are staying over at the Hilton, Taj Samudra hotel and Shangri-la Hotel Colombo tonight.

“One hotel booked was the Taj Samudra hotel suite room number 757,” he said.

He said that the street protest organised by the joint opposition was a total failure.

Nalin Bandara said that most of the protesters had gathered outside Lake House after the failed street protest walk, and were staying overnight.

The Deputy Minister said the protest was organised to overthrow the Government but the attempt had failed.

He also said that those who organised the protest were staying at five star hotels while their supporters were sleeping on the street.

Bandara said that by morning the joint opposition supporters will realise who they had taken to the streets to support.

The Deputy Minister also said that the Police ensured the security of the city was maintained during the protest.

He said there was no violence as expected by the joint opposition nor was there chaos in the city. (Colombo Gazette)
