Mahinda says protest was only the beginning, more to come

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says the ‘Jana Balaya’ protest staged today was only the beginning and that there was more to come in the efforts to topple the Government.
Speaking to his supporters near the Lake House roundabout,?Rajapaksa said that the protest walk organised by the joint opposition was a huge success.
He said the Government was looking to divide the country and also burden the public by imposing new taxes.
The former President said that the country was moving towards dictatorial rule and that must be stopped.
He said the Government is delaying holding the Local Government elections and is also not recognising the strength of the?joint opposition in Parliament.
“For the Government a group of 16 MPs and 6 MPs are more important than 70?joint opposition members in Parliament,” he said.
Mahinda Rajapaksa said that if not for him the current administration would not be able to travel to the North.
He said the campaign to overthrow the Government will continue and he urged the public to support his campaign till the end. (Colombo Gazette)
