Bail application by Mahanama and Dissanayaka rejected

The Colombo Chief Magistrate today rejected a bail application submitted by President Maithripala Sirisena?s former Chief of Staff K Mahanama and former State Timber Corporation (STC) Chairman P. Dissanayaka.

Mahanama and Dissanayaka who were remanded till today over a bribery case were ordered to be further remanded till September 4th.

Mahanama and Dissanayaka had been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs.20 million over a land deal.

Mahanama and the Chairman of the State Timber Corporation, P. Dissanayake were arrested at the car park of a Colombo hotel while accepting the bribe from an Indian businessman.?(Colombo Gazette)

Tuition classes in the Colombo District temporarily banned

Tuition classes in the Colombo District have been temporarily banned as part of measures being taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
