Navy arrests 27 Indian fishermen poaching in the Northern seas

The Navy says it arrested 27 Indian fishermen poaching in the Northern seas.

The 27 Indian fishermen were detained together with four dhows which were engaged in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters last evening (Friday).

The arrest was made by a fast gun boat attached to the Northern Naval Command in the northern seas.

Subsequently, the Indian fishermen and their dhows were brought to the naval base SLNS Elara today (Saturday).

Medical tests were carried out on the fishermen before they were handed over to the Jaffna Assistant Director of Fisheries through the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, for onward action.
