Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Qatar A S P Liyanage came under fire in Parliament today with some Parliamentarians calling him a mad man who was ruining Sri Lanka’s image overseas.

Liyanage was slammed for getting involved in the operations of the Stafford Sri Lankan School in Doha.

Deputy Minister Buddhika Pathirana told Parliament that Liyanage had no right to get involved in the affairs of a school.

The Deputy Minister said that Liyanage was a real joke and is not fit to be an Ambassador for Sri Lanka.

“His role is to bring investments to Sri Lanka. How much has he brought? He has not brought any investments to Sri Lanka,” Pathirana said.

Pathirana said that Liyanage must be recalled and he must be investigated for some allegations against him.

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti said that President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe must take immediate action to address the issue.

He said that Liyanage represents Sri Lanka in Qatar and so his actions will harm the image of Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
