Ranil says no proposal to increase salaries of MPs

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says he has not received any proposal, nor has cabinet, to increase the salaries of Parliamentarians.

Wickremesinghe told the United National Front Parliamentary Group that while there was a request a few months back to increase the salaries of MPs as the expenses for their staff had increased, there was no concrete proposal to increase the salaries.

The Prime Minister said that so far there have only been reports in the media regarding a salary increase for MPs.

However he said that for a pay hike to be implemented it needs to go through cabinet and then Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)
