Speaker says no final decision on increasing salaries of MPs

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya says there is no final decision on increasing the salaries of Members of Parliament.

In a media statement today, Jayasuriya said that there has been a lot of debate in the media over reports a decision had been taken to increase the salaries of Parliamentarians.

The Speaker said that any increase of the salaries of MPs must be in line with a decision reached by Parliament in 2006 on the salaries of MPs and High Court judges.

Jayasuriya said that the salaries of High Court judges had been increased recently in line with the decision reached on 2006/23/11 and there was a proposal to increase the salaries of MPs as well.

He however said that while the proposal is being studied no final decision has been reached. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Why should there be any damn decision other than a salary revise for a decrease.
These are getting far too much for looting the Country in addition to duty free Car permits.

If this Political Looters are to get a salary increase, entire workforce of the country must come out demanding a similar % in salary increses.
