VIjayakala Maheswaran grilled over controversial speech

The Police Organised Crime Prevention Division (OCPD) recorded a statement from former State Minister VIjayakala Maheswaran over a controversial speech she had made recently.

The Police said that the former State Minister was questioned for around three-and-a-half hours in Jaffna.

In her recent speech, Maheswaren had said that there was a need for the LTTE to be in control in the North and East to prevent crimes from taking place.

Following an uproar over the speech, Maheswaren resigned from her Government post. (Colombo Gazette)
