Navy arrests seven Indian fishermen for fishing in Sri Lankan waters

The Navy arrested seven Indian fishermen and detained two dhows engaged in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters.

The arrest was made by a Fast Attack Craft and a Coast Guard vessel attached to the Northern Naval Command in the seas, 10.5 nautical miles northwest of the Kankesanthurei Lighthouse.

The Indian fishers and trawlers were brought to the naval base SLNS Uththara and the fishermen were examined and handed over to the Jaffna Assistant Fisheries Director through the Sri Lanka Coast Guard. (Colombo Gazette)
