Vehicle used in Matara armed robbery seized by Police

The vehicle used in the recent armed robbery of a jewelry shop in Matara was seized by the Police today.

The Police said the husband of the owner of the vehicle was also arrested.

A gun battle erupted in the Matara town on June 22 between the Police and a group of robbers in which a policeman was killed and three people were injured.

The gun battle erupted when a gang?attempted to rob a jewellery store in the Matara town.

Three policemen and a civilian were injured in the shooting and were admitted to hospital.

One policeman succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The main suspect who was arrested was later shot dead by the Police following a confrontation when he attempted to attack the Police, the Police had claimed. (Colombo Gazette)

Two killed in outer circular highway accident

Two people were killed following an accident along the outer circular highway today. The Police said that the accident occurred between Kaduwela and Kadawatha. According to the Police, a lorry had crashed into another lorry which had broken down along the outer circular highway. This resulted in the death of two people.
