Peshala Jayarathna ordered to pay compensation to school principal

Former Chief Minister of the North Central Province Peshala Jayarathna has been ordered to pay compensation to a school principal?over an unfair transfer.

The Supreme Court today ordered Jayaratne to pay Rs 250,000 as compensation to the school principal who had filed a case over unfair transfer.

The court also ordered the Government to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to the petitioner.

The former Principal of the Niwaththaka Chethiya Maha Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura had filed a Fundamental Rights petition claiming his transfer in 2016 was unfair.

The Supreme Court today ruled in favour of the petition and ordered that the transfer be revoked.

Several areas in Walallavita Divisional Secretariat declared as isolated areas

Several areas in the Walallavita Divisional Secretariat in the Kalutara District have been declared as isolated areas. The Government Information Department said that Gulavita North, Gulavita South and Wedawatta, Magurumaswilla and Makalandawa have been declared as isolated areas.
