Governor of the Central Bank Dr Indrajit Coomaraswamy today broke his silence on allegations being made by former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake against the Senior Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.

Karunanayake has been on the attack against the Central Bank accusing some of its officials of destroying the economy of the country.

“In recent days, former Finance Minister Hon Ravi Karunanayake has repeated his allegations against Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Senior Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). As the Governor of the CBSL, I want to formally place on record that Dr. Weerasinghe is an outstanding economist who has made a stellar contribution to the work of the Bank during the two years I have spent in this position,” he said.

Dr Coomaraswamy also said that he is compelled to point out that Karunanayake has not produced any evidence to back up his unfounded allegations. (Colombo Gazette)
