Navy rescues seamen onboard distressed merchant vessel

The captain and 10 seamen who were onboard the distressed merchant ship “Mutha Pioneer” in the seas 11.6 nautical miles off Colombo harbour, were rescued by Fast Attack Craft attached to Western naval command, at dawn today (26 Jun ).

The ship which was sailing under the Dominican flag had lost control and a distress call had been sent out.

The Navy responded to the distress call and deployed Fast Attack Craft to rescue those onboard.

The crew of the ship were rescued and transferred to the Colombo harbour.

The crew comprised of 10 Sri Lankans and one Indonesian. The ship owned by an Indian was sailing under the command of a Sri Lankan Captain. The rescued persons were handed over to Harbour Police in Colombo by the Navy.
