Four more suspects arrested over Kilinochchi leopard killing

Four more suspects have been arrested over the mob attack and killing of a leopard in Kilinochchi last week.

They were produced in court and remanded till June 29th.

Earlier two suspects were arrested and remanded over the killing. The two suspects were produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate yesterday who ordered that they be remanded till June 29th.

The Magistrate also ordered the Police to arrest all other suspects involved in the incident.

Villagers in Kilinochchi last week captured and killed a leopard after it attacked 10 people in the area.

The villagers hunted down the animal after accusing wildlife officers of failing to do their duty.

Wildlife officers had arrived at Ambalkulam in Kilinochchi to capture the animal but they had failed to locate it resulting in agitated residents deciding to look for the animal themselves.

The hunt for the leopard was captured on video and visuals showed the leopard being captured and brutally attacked and killed by the residents.

The dead animal was later dragged along the streets and displayed to the public. (Colombo Gazette)
