Former CSN head Rohan Weliwita briefly detained in Singapore

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s media secretary and former head of CSN television, Rohan Weliwita was briefly detained in Singapore and questioned before being released.

Weliwita, who left for Singapore today, said he was detained by immigration officers and questioned.

Weliwita had been questioned over his links to allegations of fraud and corruption in Sri Lanka.

He was however released after Sri Lankan authorities intervened, sources said.

In 2016 Weliwita was deported back to Sri Lanka when he had visited the country to participate in the Broadcast Asia Exhibition.

Weliwita was at the time out on bail over alleged money laundering charges at CSN television when he was detained in Singapore. (Colombo Gazette)
