Lankan detained in Ramanathapuram without valid documents

A Sri Lankan national was arrested at Erwadi in Ramanathapuram in India for allegedly entering the country without valid documents, the Press Trust of India reported. Police are maintaining tight vigil in the district in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to inaugurate the memorial of former President A P J Abdul Kalam at Rameswaram on July 27. Police, who got suspicious about his movements at Erwadi where he is staying in a lodge, found that he had come about a month ago. Kasim Bai

Three waste-to-energy projects to be launched in August

Three waste-to-energy projects are to be launched in August, the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development said. Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Champika Ranawaka said that steps have been taken to address the garbage issue. He said that garbage piled up in Colombo had been removed and most of it is being used as compost. The Minister also said that a final solution is being worked at for the garbage issue and a location has been identified to dump garbage in future. (Colomb

Police probe grenade attack in Angunakolapelessa

The?Police have launched an investigation into a grenade attack in Angunakolapelessa in which at least 17 people were injured. The attack last night took place during a clash between two groups, the Police media unit said. All those injured in the clash were admitted to the Embilipitiya hospital.
