Rajapakshe had claimed that newly appointed Parliamentarian Seeni Mohammed Ismail had been served a charge-sheet with regard to alleged corruptive deals during his tenure at Oluvil University as the Vice Chancellor.
Rajapaksa had told Parliament that investigations were being carried out against the new MP by the University Grants Commission.
The ACMC said that it was dismayed and astonished about the “malicious comments” made by Rajapaksha against Dr.Ismail and that it was highly deplorable.
“Ignoring the very fact that it was customary to welcome the newly appointed MP with greeting during his Oath taking ceremony ,contrary to this noble practice, Hon.W.Rajapaksha burst out at and criticized the former Vice chancellor M.S.M Ismail. which was highly unparliamentary and uncivilized behaviour, that tantamount to a character assassination of VC Ismail,” the ACMC said.
The ACMC said that Rajapaksha was also once confronted with charges at the court of law but yet no one can construe that he was guilty unless and until it was proved he was guilty.
Therefore the verbal attack on Dr. Ismail by Rajapaksha was detestable and uncalled for as the allegations against him have not been proven. (Colombo Gazette)
