Minister insists strike by Water Board employees unfair

Minister of City Planning and?Water?Supply?Rauff Hakeem says the strike launched by?Water Board employees was unfair.

He told Parliament today that the strike had been launched without engaging in negotiations to address the issue at hand.

The Minister said that the strike had been launched over a demand to increase salaries despite the current Government increasing the salaries on several occasions.

Hakeem said that, based on calculations, the?Water Board employees were demanding another 3 percent salary increase.

The Minister questioned if it was fair to inconvenience the public just for a?3 percent salary increase. (Colombo Gazette)

Police told to record statement from Champika over accident

The police were today ordered to record a statement from Minister Champika Ranawaka over a road accident in Rajagiriya. The order was given by the Colombo Additional Magistrate as the vehicle involved in the accident belongs to Ranawaka’s?Ministry.
