Nishantha goes to court to stop Thilanga from contesting

Former Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board General Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga today filed a petition in court seeking an injunction to prevent?Thilanga Sumathipala from contesting the Sri Lanka Cricket board elections.

Ranatunga, who is also contesting for the post of President at the elections scheduled to be held this week, says?Sumathipala is not qualified to hold the post of President.

Ranatunga, the younger brother of World Cup winning former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna, was SLC secretary from 2009 to 2015.? (Colombo Gazette)

ITAK secures early lead in the North

The Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) has secured an early lead in the North based on results of the General Elections released this afternoon. ITAK secured 7,634 votes in the Jaffna polling division in the Jaffna District while the EPDP led by Douglas Devananda secured 5,545 votes and AITC secured 4642 votes. AG calls for arrest of Kurunegala Mayor

Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera today instructed Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickremeratne to obtain a warrant from Court, arrest and produce the Kurunegala Mayor, Municipal Commissioner and three others.
