Namal slams harassment of Tamil by attendant on Jaffna train

Opposition Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa slammed the harassment of a Tamil woman on a Colombo-Jaffna train by a train attendant and urged the authorities to take appropriate action.

The incident, which was caught on camera, showed the?train attendant verbally abusing the woman using offensive language.

“Train attendant on Colombo-Jaffna train I was on today, sexually and verbally harassed a Tamil woman. He didn?t stop when I stepped in but got more abusive + racist (anti-Tamil) towards me and the woman & tried to hit me. No seniors to complain to on the train,” a journalist who was on the train at the time tweeted on the incident yesterday.

Later Namal Rajapaksa tweeted saying “Harassment is harassment, as racism is racism – both have no place in #Srilanka. Hoping that authorities take necessary action immediately to ensure this doesn?t happen to anyone again,” (Colombo Gazette)

Street value of heroin on fishing trawler estimated at Rs. 4500 million

The street value of heroin found on a fishing trawler escorted to Colombo today has been estimated to be Rs. 4500 million.
