SC says Judicature (Amendment) Bill needs 2/3rd majority

The Supreme Court has informed Parliament that the Judicature (Amendment) Bill needs 2/3rds majority to be passed by Parliament.

The Supreme Court determination was communicated to Parliament today.

In its determination the Supreme Court found that section 12A(1) of the Bill is inconsistent with the Constitution.

The Judicature (Amendment) Bill was introduced in order to establish a permanent High Court-at-bar to expedite the large amount of pending cases. (Colombo Gazette)
