BBS says Gnanasara at President’s Japan event not pre-planned

The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) says the participation of the General Secretary of the BBS, the Venerable Galagodaatte?Gnanasara Thera at an event attended by President Maithripala Sirisena in Japan was not pre-planned.

President Sirisena met the?Sri Lankan community in Japan at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on Tuesday.

He also?met with the Chief Incumbents of the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temples in Japan in Tokyo.

Photographs appeared on some websites and social media showing?the Venerable Galagodaatte?Gnanasara Thera at the events where President Sirisena spoke.

However the BBS insisted that the monk was not scheduled to attend the events but so happened to be in Japan at the same time and was at the events. (Colombo Gazette)

Fears in UK over missing Lankan woman

A man detained by British police on suspicion of murder has been released without charge as fears grew for the welfare of a missing woman. Kokulavathani Mayuran, 31, was last seen in Gloucester at around 11pm on Tuesday and was reported missing to police at around 10.15pm, two days later. Cocaine hidden inside chocolate

A Thai national was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning with cocaine hidden inside chocolate, the police media unit said. The woman had arrived in Sri Lanka on board an Emirates flight from Dubai. When the woman was checked by airport officials they found the heroin inside the chocolate in her travelling bag. The police said that over 1 kilo of cocaine was discovered in the bag.
